Michael Trainor is an energy specialist at ADB’s Central and West Asia Department. Before joining ADB in 2013, he served as senior energy policy specialist with USAID’s Mission to Central Asia in Almaty, Kazakhstan, and prior to that in Kosovo, Azerbaijan, Moldova, and Washington, DC. He holds a master’s degree in International Economics from Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies in Washington, DC and a bachelor’s degree in Russian and German Studies from the University of Wolverhampton in the United Kingdom. He is currently on special leave.

Sustainable energy is about more than renewables. Challenges will remain in financing and maintaining energy systems, even after the clean-energy transition is complete.
