Aekapol Chongvilaivan Senior Economist (Public Finance), Southeast Asia Department, Asian Development Bank
Aekapol Chongvilaivan is a senior economist (public finance) at ADB. Through ADB’s lending and technical assistance, he supports the governments in Southeast Asia in public finance management (PFM) policy and reforms, including tax reforms, medium-term fiscal planning and budgeting, and public debt management. Prior to his current role, he was a country economist for the Philippines in ADB's Philippines Country Office. He joined ADB in 2013 through the Young Professionals Program and has working experience in ADB’s Southeast Asia Department, Pacific Department, and Strategy and Policy Department. He holds a PhD in Economics from the National University of Singapore.
Governments must rethink and refine tax policy and administration measures to not only address development challenges but also to build back better.
Policies being undertaken in the Pacific are helping businesses move from the informal to the formal sector and generate better jobs.
